What makes the perfect wedding venue?
When people picture a wedding venue, they often think of rustic barns, grand halls, or garden marquees. But sometimes, the most meaningful place isn’t in a wedding brochure at all—it’s the spot that already holds part of your story.
For Owen and Lucy, that place is the Riverside Stadium—home of Middlesbrough Football Club.
Besides working there, Owen has long-standing ties with the club, and Lucy works there on match days, so it’s more than just a football ground. It’s a place full of memories, emotions, and familiar energy. Somewhere that feels like them. So when they told me they were getting married there, it made perfect sense.

A pre-wedding shoot with a difference...
We met up for their pre-wedding shoot inside the stadium, and honestly? It was brilliant. It wasn’t your traditional romantic backdrop, but that’s the beauty of it. These two were completely at ease, laughing in the stands, walking hand-in-hand down the tunnel, even standing pitch-side with that classic Boro red as the backdrop. It felt right. It felt real.
Because that’s the thing: your wedding doesn’t have to tick boxes. It doesn’t have to be what anyone else expects. It just has to feel like you.
(We even got to spend time in the team dressing room!!)

A dog in a football stadium??
And the best bit? Their gorgeous dog Roxy made a surprise appearance at the end of the shoot, tail wagging and ready for cuddles. Because honestly, what’s a love story without a four-legged friend?

Planning a wedding somewhere meaningful?
The whole shoot was relaxed, natural, and completely them – which is exactly how I want every couple to feel. If you’re thinking of doing something a bit different for your wedding or pre-wedding shoot, here’s your sign to go for it.
Whether it’s a football stadium, a record shop, your nan’s garden or the pub where you first met—if it means something to you, that’s what makes it the perfect spot.
